Our history




The "Centro de Investigaciones en Catálisis" (Catalysis Research Center) -CICAT-UIS- was created by resolution of the Consejo Superior of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) on September 24, 1986 and moved to the headquarters UIS Guatiguará ten years later.
It was jointly founded by the late Prof. Aristóbulo Centeno (Chemical Engineering School), Prof. Edgar Páez Mozo (Chemistry School) and Prof. Álvaro Ramírez García (Chemical Engineering School). CICAT-UIS was born with the idea of ​​promoting research in the field of catalysis at the UIS and with the aim to generate scientific knowledge on the design of catalytic materials and catalytic technologies according to the specific needs of Colombia. Research activities at CICAT-UIS have been focused on providing green solutions for environmental problems and on developing processes for adding value to local raw materials.

Throughout its history, CICAT-UIS has contributed to training researchers at the undergraduate, master and doctorate levels. CICAT-UIS has published more than 120 scientific articles and has received the A1 recognition in the ranking of Colciencias.
At present, CICAT-UIS is jointly developing several research project with the Instituto Colombiano del Petróleo -Colombian Petroleum Institute- and offers a wide variety of services to the general public.
